Keiji Tsuruno

Keiji Tsuruno is a Japanese ceramicist born in 1967. He lives and works in Mashiko, Tochigi prefecture, an important center of creative potters.

He started his work as a potter in Mashiko in 1994.

He digs soil and makes his own clay for his ceramic works. He uses a kicking wheel and wood kiln, paying particular attention to the glazing and texture of his works, including ash glazing and kohiki. He uses to say that the real master of the ceramic work is not the potter, but the fire. He enjoys the result of unexpected kiln transformation.

His work has been exhibited in various cities in Japan, in China and in Paris at Le sentiment des choses.
