Eukeni Callejo

Born in Bilbao in 1957, Eukeni Callejo studied fine arts and ceramics in Bilbao. Based in France since 2006, he has developed a powerful sculptural language in which clay undergoes extreme transformations. Through overfiring, smoke firing and experimentation, he pushes the material to its limits, creating cracks, expansions and distortions. His sculptures combine expressive strength, formal freedom and poetry. More recently, he has been exploring colour, opening up new possibilities within his sculptural language. The recipient of several international awards, including the European Ceramics Biennale in Manises in 1999 and the Jury Grand Prize at Céramique 14 in Paris in 2011, his work is represented in several museum collections in Spain and Germany.
